The Center for English as a Second Language (CESL) is a department within the University of Oklahomaâs College of Continuing Education Outreach programs division. CESL assists international students in improving their English proficiency and readies them for their degree programs at OU and other American universities. CESL offers two fall sessions and two spring sessions seven weeks in length, and two summer sessions six weeks each. During our sessions we offer reading, writing, listening and speaking, as well as TOEFL, iELTS, and GRE prep classes. In addition to English language instruction, CESL offers American culture immersion classes enabling international students to increase their cultural awareness of the university and the greater U.S. experience while developing their language proficiency. Our student population is between 200-280 students, from 20-30 countries. Special programs offered include: Language Exchange, Culture Night, Fieldtrips and partner activities with other university departments, including Modern Languages, Education, and Linguistics. We also partner with neighboring public schools and the OU childcare Center in culture outreach. CESL students are considered to be OU students and enjoy the same privileges: computer labs, athletic events, free seminars, and athletic facilities that other university students do.
