Strategy of the Academy
The General Jonas Žemaitis Military Academy of Lithuania (MAL) is the only university-type higher education institution in Lithuania with the main purpose and mission to train and educate well-rounded, critically-thinking and self-sufficient officers. High-quality officer training and education is ensured by effective and well-combined university and military studies based on modern teaching methods, scientific researches and highest competences of lecturers, military instructors and other academic staff. The MAL trains active and responsible officers-commanders for the National Defence System who follow constitutional rights and duties, cherish the values of the Lithuanian Armed Forces (LAF) and are ready to act under complex national security and defence conditions.
VISION
The MAL will become the best Lithuanian university developing leaders. It will be an exceptional, modern, acknowledged and competitive university providing three-cycle university education for Lithuanian and foreign officers, carrying out high-level international scientific researches and ensuring the principles of lifelong learning. By aiming to become a significant national, regional and international security, defence and military studies competence centre, it will design effective systems for cooperation with other universities and foreign research centres and implementation and dissemination of scientific research results in the NDS.
The Strategy 2018–2024 addresses the ways the MAL will carry out the mission and the following five fundamental strategic development directions causing major changes:
- Identification, recruitment, admission, training and education of highly-motivated candidates in accordance with the requirements of the MAL and LAF.
- High-quality student-oriented university and military studies.
- Scientific researches in the fields of security, defence and warfare according to international standards.
- Continuous development of lecturers, instructors and other academic personnel’s subject-specific and teaching competences.
- Increasing organizational efficiency and effectiveness.
Cadets will always remain the centre of gravitation of all the MAL activities based on the academic principles of transparency, openness, rationality, trust and responsibility-based relationships with staff and interested parties. Special attention will be devoted to the professional development of lecturers and related academic staff, attraction of new specialists nationally and internationally and fostering further modern study environment. Qualified and motivated personnel focused on the implementation of the strategy and changes and promoting strong values of the MAL is a core that will allow a successful implementation of the Strategy 2018-2024.
