The University of Leeds is one of the largest and most successful universities in the UK. As a member of the elite Russell Group, Leeds is well known for the quality of its research, learning and teaching. We are in the top 100 universities for academic reputation in the QS World University Rankings 2018 and top 10 for research power in the UK (Research Excellence Framework 2014). With over 500 undergraduate and 300 postgraduate degrees, Leeds has one of the widest ranges of courses in the UK and welcomes over 33,000 students from more than 150 different countries. We are delighted to have been named University of the Year 2017, which recognises the outstanding student experience at the University of Leeds. The University is based on a single campus and a 10 minute walk from the city centre with one of the liveliest Students’ Unions in the UK – home to over 300 clubs and societies. International student are guaranteed a room in University accommodation for the duration of their studies at Leeds. The University was voted 4th in the UK in the 2017 Times Higher Education Student Experience Survey The University’s £12.5m sports and fitness facility, The Edge and was used by both the Chinese Olympic and Canadian Paralympic teams ahead of the London 2012 games. Leeds hosted the Grand Départ of the world’s most famous cycle race, the Tour de France in 2014. Leeds is a sporting hub with professional soccer, rugby and cricket teams all based in the city, and there are opportunities for amateur participation across a huge range of pastimes. The city of Leeds is located in the heart of the UK, just two hours by train from London and three hours from Edinburgh. An international airport connects Leeds to many destinations throughout Europe, and Manchester Airport is just 90 minutes away by train. The outstanding beauty of five national parks including the world famous Lake District and Yorkshire Dales are within easy reach. Leeds is the UK's largest centre for financial and business services outside London, and is also recognised as the UK's most important legal centre outside the capital. The Leeds alumni community includes many well-known figures from media (including Richard Quest from CNN) sport (including Olympic Triathlon Gold Medallist Alistair Brownlee) and the arts (including singer Corinne Bailey Rae). Two former Leeds students have made it to Space – actor Chris Pine whilst playing Captain Kirk in the recent Star Trek movies, and ‘real’ astronaut Piers Sellers, a member of the 2002 Space Shuttle Atlantis crew.
