Study at the University of Colorado Boulder!!! The University of Colorado Boulder provides an outstanding academic setting on one of the most beautiful campuses in the United States. More than a dozen academic programs are ranked in the top 25 in the United States, and the university as a whole ranked 34th in the world in a recent survey. CU-Boulder is also proud of the quality and diversity of its students, who come from every state in the nation and over 100 foreign countries. CU-Boulder has nine colleges and schools and offers over 3,400 courses each year in 150 fields of study. 80 majors are offered at the bachelor’s level, 70 at the master’s level and 52 at the doctoral level. Classes are taught by outstanding faculty; four have received Nobel Prizes and seven have received MacArthur Fellowships, known as “genius grants.” Students have the opportunity to learn in the classroom, in the laboratory and outside of the classroom through research, mentoring and other programs. The Intensive English Program The Intensive English Program (IEP) offers students from all parts of the world a unique opportunity to learn English in a stimulating academic environment. The IEP helps students prepare to enter a university in the United States. Classes focus on improving communication with integrated skills in academic listening, speaking, reading and writing. The year-round program features five eight-week sessions of intensive English instruction with seven different levels of instruction, from beginning to advanced. •Program developed for international students preparing to enter a college or university in the United States •Classes also appropriate for professionals wanting to improve their English for work and for all students wanting to study English intensively •Classes focused on improving communication with integrated language skills (academic listening, speaking, reading, writing) •20 hours each week of core language instruction with latest English as a second language (ESL) teaching practices and materials •3 hours each week of optional elective classes at no additional cost •Classes are offered at seven proficiency levels from beginning to advanced •Classes average 12 – 15 students •Instructors with masters’ degrees and overseas teaching and intensive program (IEP) experience •Opportunities to join in local community events and use their skills in real life settings •University of Colorado courses available for advanced level students with Director approval •Two state-of-the-art computer labs with internet and e-mail access for student use •Certificates upon conclusion of studies College-Ready Curriculum (CRC) •An Academic Honors program for International English Center students •Students must maintain high grades and 85% attendance in the core IEP program to participate •Includes detailed instruction in the academic skills and American academic cultural norms students need to know to achieve their university goals •CRC courses focus on a variety of topics, such as the college application process, appropriate interaction with professors and classmates, cross-cultural awareness, creative and critical thinking, avoiding plagiarism, time management and study skills, test preparation, and academic vocabulary •Students master a variety of study skills and time management aids which help manage their university workloads •Students participate in activities designed to increase their academic vocabulary and prepare them for both the TOEFL and IELTS •Classes utilize role playing and students discuss expected classroom behavior and effective communication strategies •Faculty focus on tactics to avoid plagiarism and improve critical and creative thinking skills
